Individual Project

Though commonly linked to childhood, ADHD persists into adulthood and affects numerous aspects of life. As for adults, ADHD is regarded as more of an executive functioning disorder rather than an attention deficit. The intricate system governs daily functions but faces heavy disruption from ADHD. To help address this, I come up with an app solution to offer restorative support for these challenges.

The project was actually based on a course project of mine, an ergonomic manipulator that enables expressive gestures in telepresence robots which was inspired by the intelligent robotic arm "Dummy" in Iron Man movies. Then later in 2022, as Covid was sweeping the world and pharyngeal swab nucleic acid testing became a daily necessity, I teamed up with friends majoring in business analytics and computer science to explore the possibility of turning my original course project into an interactive sampling robot to help ease the burden on the healthcare system.

I developed a smart spice cabinet aimed at assisting contemporary young people in cooking with two of my classmates during freshmen year. This idea stemmed from my interest in cooking and the confusion I faced with the ambiguous measurements in recipes. Under the guidance of our teachers, we chose a hardware-software approach to develop our solution. After weeks of hard work, we built a prototype based on a microcontroller. This project was not only my first taste of the joy of being a maker, but it also gave me a preliminary yet deep understanding of the entire process of developing technological products.
